GDPR compliance

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) takes effect on May 25, 2018. The GDPR is a standardized user data protection framework which operates across Europe and sets up obligations for organizations like Lumen5 on how to handle the personal data of people in the European Economic Area.

Lumen5 is compliant with the GDPR. The following FAQs help explain what the GDPR is and provide further details.

What is the GDPR?

The GDPR is a new European data protection law which sets out various requirements that will become effective on May 25, 2018. It replaces the existing data protection regime for the EU under Directive 95/46/EC, and is intended to harmonize data protection laws throughout the EU by applying a single data protection law that is binding throughout all Member States.

How does the GDPR apply to Lumen5?

Lumen5 is a video creation tool that enables users around the world to generate videos quickly and easily. For more information on the types and categories of data we collect and process, please see our  Privacy Policy.

Does this affect me if I don't live in Europe?

While the GDPR applies only to individuals in Europe, Lumen5 applies our Privacy Policy universally to users in all countries to the extent permissible by law. We believe that everyone should have the same guarantees about their data and its privacy.

Where is Lumen5 based?

Lumen5 is a Canadian company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. For the purposes of EU data protection law, Canada is considered a country which provides adequate protections for personal data, as confirmed by the European Commission in Commission Decision 2002/2/EC. Accordingly Lumen5 already resides in a country with strong data protection laws. In this way, the GDPR is more of an evolution than a revolution for Lumen5.
